Need Shifter Help
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a parts man for a GM dealer here in Dallas. I have a customer that just bought a 2001 Trans Am with an automatic. It has the t handle type shifter with the "thumb" button. Here's the problem, my customer is handicapped and can't operate that type of handle. I ordered him a Camaro shifter with the button in the top and he can now operate the shifter now but here's the kicker, GM has quit putting the slot in the **** for the keeper that holds it on. I called GM thinking I got bad stock and was told the user had to cut the slot himself. My question is, will someone measure their **** as to where the slot should be so I can help this man out? Or does the aftermarket offer a **** that's ready to go?
Thank you

Wouldn't it be in the same location?
I mean if the unlikely event that the shifters themselves are different your still using the trans am shifter so it's got to line up in the same spot. I tried to measure mine for you but my good tape is at work.
On a side note that's got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If they are going to continue to produce them at least finish the job.

Can't you just buy a good used Camaro ****, or Grand Prix ****, ..., on Ebay or somewhere that already has the slot?
If you use this adaptor, you can use any standard 6-speed type ball ****, ..., & you simply push down on the whole ****.
