Default 0 mile rebuilt 4l60 issue

Hey all, this is in a 99 Sierra. Freshly rebuilt(bought kit from 4l60/700r4.com) New clutches, sunshell, included shift kit etc. Problem we're having is reverse is slipping horribly. It goes into reverse but truck feels like it has a 5k stall converter lol. All forward gears seem to work well other than a slight vibration at times in top of 1st and second.

Hoping it's maybe just something in the valvebody, need some suggestions on what to look for before tearing it all back down again

Reverse oil comes directly off the Manual Valve, Nothing in the Valve Body itself will cause a no reverse condition. Leaving the 3 8mm headed bolts loose on the Support Plate right behind the valve body will cause a slipping reverse.

Now the real question is.....Is it Slipping or Binding?? Does it move in slow Reverse? Or does in load up & not move?

clinebarger, why does those 3 bolts being loose result in a slipping reverse? Fluid leak?

The Lo/Reverse Clutch feed is right under the Support Plate/Separator Plate, Depending on how loose they are the symptoms can vary from a slow hot reverse, a Shutter or Slipping.

Thank you for the explanation. Opening my GM tech manual, yup. There's the Lo/Reverse feed right by the three 8mm bolts.

Thanks for the reply I'll have to take a look at that first. Hopefully that's all it is.
Reverse engages and the truck will kinda back up on level ground, but give it any throttle up an incline etc it shudders and slips bad.

Another possibility is that one of the teflon rings on the stator shaft got torn on final assembly. And/or the inside of the reverse drum is badly worn; this is where the teflon rings ride. Was the reverse drum replaced?

Reverse drum is original, I haven't had time to look into this yet with work and the holiday. Hoping next week to bring it in and look at everything.

Finally got around to dropping the pan, it was those bolts on the support plate. Trans is working great now.
