4l80e swap!!
I recently purchased a 4l80e out of a 2000 Gmc 2500 2wd truck with 80k miles...I'm having it looked over by a local trans guy in my area I was told when I bought it the trans was in perfect working order I only paid 100 bucks for it so it was worth the chance to me...I bought the trans go hd2 shift kit and am having that installed now...how much hp can these trans hold in Stock form? I'm hoping it will be OK at my power level with a 150 shot...I'm also being told I should get a bigger stalled convertor because first gear is longer with the 4l80e than my 4l60e...I'm in between Yank and circle d 4200 or 4400 stall I have 373 gears and I'll be spraying a 150 shot just looking for some opinions any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

I have a Chevy Express 3500 with the LMM Duramax and weigh on average roughly 8900lbs which came with the 4L85E but is now a 4L80E due to availability of the other. I have it tuned to roughly 430-450whp and 775-800wtrq and drive it for work use daily. I drive it very hard with do quite a few 3/4 throttle foot brake launches at roughly 10lbs of boost. The trans in it now had 160,000 miles on it from the junk yard and I have added roughly 75-80,000 since install with the Transgo HD2 kit and just started recently experiencing temps around 200 when towing a 2000lb trailer with a 67 Buick skylark convertible on it doing some full throttle take offs from stop. If that trans is in good shape internally your good. Drive it like a "raped monkey" and enjoy. For stall converter call the few reputable shops and get a feeling for the attention they give to your setup and choose based off the information each provides. I have a PATC 1800 Raptor in the van and really like how it reacts and drives. The Escalade just got a Circle D 3000 and it is a killer converter. Good luck
