2001 Z28 M6 to A4 Conversion - Wiring Questions
The harness to the trans is part of the engine harness and has nothing to do with the switches inside the car. There is no way around this unless you replace the whole harness inside of the car. PM me when you are ready and I will send you a write up I did on the inside wiring along with wiring diagrams. All safety features, cruise control and converter lock-up will work just like a stock A4 car.
As requested.
It has been almost 2 years since I have done this and my memory is a little fuzzy. My car was is a 2002 Trans Am and the donor was a 2002 Camaro.
** Please note that the diagram of the C220 behind the right front kick panel shows to different color wires going to the H terminal. (Orange/Black and Light Green) I can’t remember which is correct but you should be able to figure it out. If you get stuck I can pull the kick panel and check.
Back-up light wires are in connector C220 behind the right front kick panel. Run the Brown wire from the G terminal and the Light Green wire from the **H terminal of the C220 connector behind the kick panel to the Park/Neutral Switch. The Brown wire goes to the C terminal and the Light Green wire goes to the D terminal on the Park/ Neutral Switch.
Dark Green and Purple/White wire from clutch pedal switch that is closed when the clutch pedal is down should be ran to Park/ Neutral Switch terminals E and F. I don’t think it matters which one goes to which terminal.
For the TCC and Cruise Control to work properly the Pink and Purple wires from the clutch pedal switch, that is closed when the pedal is up, should be run to and A4 bake light switch that is closed when the brake pedal is up. The Pink wire comes from the C terminal and Purple wire goes to the D terminal of the C220 connector behind the right front kick panel.
You need to run the Orange/Black wire from the B terminal of the Park/Neutral Switch to the **H terminal at the C220 connector behind the right front kick panel.
Run the Black/White wire from the A terminal of the Park/Neutral Switch to the E terminal of the C220 connector behind the right front kick panel.
When wiring up the Shift-Interlock solenoid you will need to run a Dark Green/White wire from the part of the brake light switch that opens when the brake pedal is depressed, B terminal to the B terminal on the Shift-Interlock solenoid. Now run an Orange/Black wire from the Shift-Interlock solenoid A terminal and tie it into the Orange/Black wire that runs from the B terminal on the Park/Neutral Switch to the **H terminal on the C220 connector. I tied it into the Orange/Black wire at the C220 connector. You will need to install a diode in the Orange/Black wire from the A terminal on the Shift-Interlock solenoid to where it ties into the C220 connector behind the right front kick panel (see diagram).
I pulled all of these wires and connectors from the A4 car that I had, especially the Orange/Black wire with the diode in it.
The small shifter cable that only moves when the button on the shifter handle is depressed goes to ignition switch or the steering column. This keeps you from being able to remove the keys without the shift lever in park. You may be able to just use the A4 ignition switch instead of replacing the whole column. I had the column so I used it because I didn’t like the lever by the lock cylinder that you have to push down to get the key out.
The image of the pedal switches is for an A4 to M6 swap so the drawing in red is backwards.

This is what is needed for a drag car.
Need this for starter motor to work
Dark Green and Purple/White wire from clutch pedal switch that is closed when the clutch pedal is down should be ran to Park/ Neutral Switch terminals E and F. I don’t think it matters which one goes to which terminal.
The next two are needed for the PCM work correctly.
If you want your Torque Converter Clutch to lock up you will need to do this also.

Would this wiring work on a 98? I ask because I have an 02 a4 that I will be swapping a friend for a 98 t56. He has a spear tech a4 swap plug but we can't find the wiring for a 98. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m not sure if the 02 info will carry over to the 98. This web site helped me a lot.

Hey bbond you say tap into the clutch wires (pink and purple) for the tcc and cruise to work. I see a pink wire on that 4 wire connector on the clutch switch but no purple? I look on my m6 brake pedal and I see a pink and purple wire into a 4 plug wire connector. Is that what I tap into and run over to C and D terminal on connector 220? I know this thread is old!! I'm confused with what I found under my dash LOL

This diagram is for going from A4 to M6, so you will need to do the opposite.
I did look at both of them one switch is on the floor(already tapped into that so my car starts without clutch down) and the other switch is where the clutch is in the up position, correct? All of those switches in that diagram are in my car... But I see the pink and purple are in the brake switch only a pink wire in the clutch switch(up position)
I went m6 to a4 with my manual peddles still installed.
That plug was in the clutch switch (up position)
That is my brake switch. Their is a switch above this as well which has little pig tails that attach to the clutch wire in the other pic. I assume this switch is for CC.
You can see the purple and pink wire going into the brake switch here.

Does the ppl wire on the brake switch go to 420 on connector C220? You can check this by unplugging brake switch and connector C220 using an ohm meter. Is the switch on the brake pedal with the Pink and PPL wire closed with the brake pedal in the up position? Again, check this with an ohm meter.
From your pic it looks like it is wired up correctly from the factory? What year car is this?

It is a 2001 Camaro. I haven't tried reading it with an ohm meter yet I will have to try that in the morning. There is a pink and purple wire on connector 220 it is a little thicker than what's on brake switch. Is there normally a pink and purple wire on a m6 brake switch?( I'm wondering if this is an a4 auto brake switch)

The ORN and LT BLU wires are for the brake lights. The pink and purple wires are for converter clutch. Do you have a pic of the upper switch and wires for the clutch petal? There should be a PINK and a BRN wire on this switch.
It has been 8 years or more since I have done my car so I'm having to figure it out again without a car to look at.

No problem dude, I really appreciate you writing back to me
That is the switch on the clutch up position
Here is a better pic of that connector on the clutch switch (up position) it does have a pink wire in it and to the left of it is a brown wire with white pin stripe. The far right wire is black with white pin stripe.
Okay, I think you can cut the BRN wire from the clutch switch at that connector and tie it into the PPL wire coming off the brake switch that goes to pin 420 on connector C220. PPL wire still needs to hooked up so just slice the BRN wire in don't cut or disconnect the PPL wire from switch. Or just use a jumper wire to test that Cruise Control works and then hard wire if it does work.

Ok I will give that a try. Also this connector 420 in c220. I looked at connector c220(the white connector) there is a pink and purple wire there. But it is labeled as C and D not 420. Ok I found a picture that tells me what circuit that is and yes d the purple is circuit 420.
