Default daily driver trans problem, need info asap

blew the 4l65e trans out of my 04 daily driver (with 6.0). my ole man has a 6.0 with a 4l80e bolted to it laying in his shop from 01' 2500. I know the trans will swap in but the shift selector plugs are different but the brackets are the same... can I just swap the shift selector from the 4l65e to the 4l80e? they both have the same number of wires. The round plug on the passenger side is the same... not sure if the pins are.

I know the other mods I have to do... mainly because they are obvious, but the wiring part is sketchy do to the similarities. I know there are harness kits but it looks like they're just for the round connector and if that's the case id sooner re-pin the one that's already there. I searched this forum but didn't see anything pertaining to this and I need an answer because I can't have too much down time!

The calibration would be all wrong, you need to have the 4l80e programming in or it'll destroy the trans.

i know that i will need to flash the pcm... still cheaper than a new 4l65e. the biggest difference between them that i can tell is the gear selector box (http://www.buyrcars.com/4L80Econnectors.jpg) apparently both of these are off 4l80e's I have the one with 2 plugs and my harness on the truck has the one big plug... seeing as they serve the same purpose i was wondering if i could swap them so i don't have to change the connectors.

The electrical boxes, if any, on the outside of the trans and around the shift linkage do not affect the transmission or its shifting. They DO NOT tell the PCM what gear the shifter is in; only whether it is Park/Neutral or something else.
They implement the Park/Neutral safety switch and the Reverse lights.

thank you for the info mrvedit! I will swap them... should be easy to tell if there's an issue if that's the case. I found a diagram that shows the 2 wires that change in the round plug passenger side and the 4l80e has an added ISS (input speed sensor) that adds 2 wires that need to be ran to the red connector. I have the harness and pcm from the donor... I will see if I can swap that pcm (nelson performance wants 300 to flash mine) it shouldn't be an issue because they're both 6.0's... that beings said if anyone knows otherwise feel free to chime in!
