Default Help! Trans Am Ls1 with 4L30E

Hey everyone, new to the forum here. A little background I have purchased a 98 trans am automatic from a friend of mine. It has been sitting for quite some time so i finally convinced him to sell it to me. Well he has mentioned to me that before he parked it, it was started to have trans problems. Something about the tranny leaking the fluid out. So I got it to my house and jack it up to find which model tranny he has put. From what I can see it shows a 4L30E. From my understanding these cars typically have a 4L60E or 4L65E from the factory. He stated he purchased this tranny from a performance shop (which was 5 years ago).
Question is should a 4L30E be in this car, and if not have i found my culprit?
thanks

4L30E's have 2 Pans (3L30 with OD), I highly doubt you have one in a Trans Am...

Appreciate it, well I haven't had a chance to run it since I need to swap the fuel pump first.
But where are some places I should start with as far as discovering this cause for trans fluid to leak. Any common issues? Bell housing, pan gasket, trans lines, filter?

Appreciate that. Would've never thought of the front and rear seals.
