help gap between flexplate and torque converter Hi guys need little help i have lq9 motor 2003 from sierra and 4l80E from isuzu 2005.the flex plate came with transmission had already spacer.my question is how much gap there should be between the flexplate and torque converter?i am have 1/4 gap... can i cover it will grade 8 washer or i dont need it?
With the converter all the way in the transmission, and the transmission all the way up to the block,Your converter spacing should to be between 1/8"(.125) and 3/16"(.187) before pulling it out of the pump for proper installation.

1/4" is too much as the converter will be partially pulled out of hte trans' pump rotor.
1/8" is perfect with a margin of +/- 1/16" - so between 1/16" and 3/16".
Drill bits make it easy to measure the gap.
If you don't have special converter washers, grade 8 washer are fine. If you have calipers, measure 3 matching ones within .002. You want them matching so that the flexplate isn't twisted and the weight matches too. Typical thickness is .090 which will bring you into spec just under 3/16".
