Default Trans/Motor Drop and TC Install

Hey Guys,

I am getting ready to drop my motor out the bottom along with the transmission and k-member to do some work. While I have it all out, I am planning to install a Yank ss3600 as well. I have a couple of questions:

1. With everything out, will I be able to just separate the transmission from the motor and then pull the TC? Will it then be easy to put back together?

2. Will I need to drain any fluid before doing this?

3. Should I also change trans fluid and filter at the same time? I have 140k miles on the trans, I have owned it for about 12 years but have never changed the fluid/filter. I have put about 30-40k miles on it in that time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the response 01ssreda4. I will plan on draining the fluid and changing the filter while the car is in the air, before I drop the trans. I am assuming this is the best way to do it.

Before or after doesn't matter, just remember to put some fluid in the converter before you mate it to the transmission. You do not want to start the car with the converter dry. I would also change the front seal while you have it apart.

I drained mine before I started and it was nice to not have to worry about fluid spilling all over the place when the time came to actually drop the trans

While you have everything apart, you should strongly consider swapping out your weak stamped flex plate for a SF29 unit. TCI makes a bullet proof unit, and couple the plate to the TC with ARP grade 8 bolts.
