Default Changing Trans Cooler Size/Location

Looking to get feedback on changing my cooler setup. I was taking some readings with the IR temp gun and not surprisingly my huge Long Tru-Cool (Same as largest B&M) is heat soaking my intercooler. It covers at least 1/3 of the rad area and about 1/2 of the intercooler. The surface temp of the intercooler is about 40 degrees warmer behind the cooler just at idle.

The plan is to remove the huge Trucool and go to a slightly smaller and thicker Derale 51606 16 plate 10000 series cooler. The BTU rating on the Derale is slightly higher at 32,000 vs the 29,000 BTU of the Trucool. I also want to move it forward and down on the grill to eliminate the hotspot directly behind it. In the bottom picture you can see the yellow box on the front grill is the proposed location.

Any potential issues I am missing? I have no idea if the BTU ratings are comparable but any issues going to the smaller but thicker cooler? The trans is a 4L80e with a Jake's stage 2 kit and Yank 3400 turbo converter that's pretty tight cruising around.

New location will be right behind the grill and a good 8 inches in front of the intercooler now.

Not sure but nothing indicates it's getting too hot, fluid looks perfect. After a short romp the cooler inlet tube is 109… cooler itself about 112…outlet tube 101.

Move it wherever you want and throw a cheap cooler fan on it. Thats what I did years ago and it did wonders. Can get a nice 8 or 10 inch fan on ebay for about 30 bucks.

I have definitely thought of that but then I have to activate the fan. Do you run yours all the time or do you have a temp sensor to activate?

I have it on a manual switch, in the summer it runs basically all the time, in the winter rarely. I monitor the temps with a gauge.
