Default Help with TC choice

Hi all, I just joined but have read a lot of threads and roamed the site for info for a long time.
Anyways, I am looking for some insight. I have a 1970 Shortbox 2wd c10 with an LQ4, 317 heads and a 224/230-112LSA Cam paired with a 4l80. I am tuning it myself via EFIlive. I have read online and the opinions seem to vary between 3000-4000 stall. I am wondering what people recommend for a decent torque converter and what the ideal stall is? Since it is a daily driver I would still like a locking TC. I have driven it for about 200 miles now with the stock converter and I am pretty dissapointed with the bottom end. Unfortunately my budget isnt huge as I am getting married in October, and we are saving for that. This is my first build and I appreciate all of your experience and knowledge. Thanks in advance for any help! If someone on the forum even had a decent TC with a higher stall I would be interested.

You'll notice a big difference with anything in the 3000-4000 range but the choice depends much on your driving style and preference. the high stalls such as a 3800-4000 have excellent strip performance but will drive loose on the street. a 3600 converter(probably one of the most popular) offers a good balance of both strip performance and street drivability and the lower 3000-3200 converters give up a little bit of strip performance but are very well street mannered. Much of this also depends on your setup so feel free to fill out online build sheet and we'll design a converter to your likes and needs to best fit your car.

Awesome! Thanks for the help, I just submitted a build sheet. let me know what you recommend. I wasn't sure about the dished flex plate or not. Its a mostly stock lq4 and 4l80e, and it is the stock flexplate and torque converter. It is out of a 1999 Silverado 2500 2wd.

If the LQ4 came stock infront of the 4L80 its a flat LT style flexplate.
