I couldn't figure out where to ask this, so I'm going to post this here. Can the LT1 4l60e and the LS1 4l60e be built to perform to the same level? Im only going to push 400whp. And I plan to go with the PB Level 2 4l60e. But I have the LT based 4l60e. But other than the removable housing. Is there any other reason to go with the LS based Version? Because they are all the same price and have the same HP rating. I won't be tracking or launching the car with slicks. I am mostly confused Bc there is a guy in my car group that always says he has a built LS 4l60e not the LT 4l60e in his Caprice as if they can't be built to perform the same.
Moving it over here where you'll get some discussion.
It's mostly a matter what's involved in your build. The later LS trannies had fixes and upgrades not found on earlier ones. And of course they are not interchangeable - an LS motor requires an LS tranny and vice versa.

I currently have a 6.0 in my 96 impala SS backed behind my built LT based 4l60e. However, a lot of guys said I should swap it out for a LS 4l60e. However, all the fixes they added to the LS 4l60e can be added to the LT based 4l60e. At least that is what I thought. Considering the Level 2 4l60e of PB has the same parts for the 95+LT 4l60e, and LS 4l60e. I'd assume it would be no point in actually switching to a LS 4l60e and dealing with drive shaft, spacer, and stall changes. I was just trying to figure out why this particular guy said dont have a LT 4l60e built, bc it won't last, however he feels a built LS 4l60e will last... On another note if im going to deal with all of those changes. I'll be going to a 4l80e.
The input shaft on a LS 4L60E is different than the LT, but other than that they are basically the same other then a few upgrades. The LT trans can be built to handle the same power as a LS trans.
They can be built to the same capabilities the units are virtually identical from a build perspective,
Thanks so much to everyone, I figured he was just blowing smoke. I will be buying a trans from you guys very soon! I only plan on having 400whp in the 4200lb land yacht. So the level 2 should be sufficient for a street car that will never do more than a stop light pull.
