Default torque convertor upgrade need a tune ?

Gentlemen, I am about ready to put a higher stall TC in the car.

My question is, is a tune required for this ?

I had a prior LT1 TA, which had a 2800 stall and 373's. I used a Hyper Tech Power programmer, only to change the gears. The stall did not require a tune. I understand this was an OBD1 car.

The car for the TC upgrade is an 00 LS1 TA.

Please advise.

My '00 did not "require" a tune for a 3500 stall speed. There was some very minor idle surge in gear that mostly went away with some PCM learn time. Otherwise, no issues with the stock tune. 1998-00 cars are more forgiving in this regard. '01+ seem to have more significant tuning related issues with stall speeds in that range.

Please explain, I was under the impression that (especially 98) PCM's weren't all that and a bag of chips...

The '98 and '99-'00 cars are less sensitive to this change. Some of the '01+ cars have serious transmission performance issues with the stock tune and stall speeds of ~3500 and up.
