Default 4L60E Shallow to Deep Pan

Hello Friends,
I am swapping out a bad 4L60E tranny in my 2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4.
The original has a deep pan and the one I am getting from the salvage yard has a shallow pan.

Since I am going to be putting a new filter in, I wondered if I could use the deep pan from my original on the swap out one that has the shallow? Then I could order the deep pan filter. I've ran through most of the posts here and couldn't quite come up with whether they can be swapped out or not without effecting other things like dip stick length for instance.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes you can swap them over. You could run a pan that hung down 4 ft. and it would not effect your dip stick length. You would just need to run that much more fluid in the 4ft pan to get it up to the full level on the dip stick

The only thing you are changing is the amount of fluid it holds, not the level in which it needs to be filled to

Yes you can change over the deep pan with no issues. Just be sure to use the correct filter for the pan that you will be using.

That's great. Just to keep things in the right place; any idea on how much fluid I should be ordering if using the deep pan? I will be using the torque converter on the salvage yard tranny since it comes with it already so I won't be draining that out.

Total capacity is 5 quarts the parts department says so I ordered that.

You may need another quart or two. Be sure to check fluid level once installed.
