4l60E Lockup Question
4l60E Lockup Question I have a 2004 H/C/I GTO with a FTI 3200 converter. When driving on the highway at speeds of 60 or over, the car feels really heavy like the engine has a huge load on it if I let of the gas to coast. The car will not come out of lockup unless I manually press the brake pedal which will kick it out.
As long as im still above 60 though, it wants to go right back into lockup with me even pressing the gas. I honestly do not like this feature. Is this a tuning thing or just the way it works?
I would much rather it come out of lockup after i completely remove my foot from the gas at high way speeds. Sometimes I just want to coast and I really dont like the feeling it provides. Like I said above, the engine feels like it is under a very heavy load doing it all can to stay in lockup. Almost like its trying much harder than it should.

The torque converter clutch apply/release can be changed with a tune. Settings for lockup and release depend on the throttle position and vehicle speed. Best results are obtained when your tuner rides with you and you test different settings. He/she can then make adjustments on the fly until you're satisfied with the results.
