If it is, sounds about right I would guess.
Why did you get rid of your cooler?
Did ya give it to him? LOL!
No, sorry, wasn't totally clear there! I still have mine. His is a Derale with a fan. Mine is a Trucool 40k, no fan.

I may swap out my H7B for the 40k one. It would be directly inline with my grill opening.
Now only half is exposed to the grill.
Not having issues, but couldn't hurt!

I would like to see if a 40k would make a difference on the friends truck. He brought it back to the shop again. They areally going to swap trans fluid to something "better". Not sure that's going to help.

My 40k sees less than half of it exposed behind the intercooler. Still does its job. It does have air spacing between it and the intercooler and radiator.

Click on my avatar. It would go between my blinkers.
Right now it's over towards the passenger side blinker and 1/2 of it is behind the bumper.

This is where mine is. Tucked back behind the IC.

Was having overheating issues that ended up being false readings or at least they were when I hit it with the infrared temp gun.. it was a VSS issue turbine input speed. Bad connection at ECU (where I pinned for swap) not sure if this was covered above or checked but I've been checking in on this just because I was in that boat and now I'm hoping you get it hammered out.. and for future reference and knowledge.

Thank you for this. Will pass it along and get him to have it checked. Truck is back in shop. They are going to try some aftermarket trans fluid to see if that helps. And yes, IR has been used to verify temp is correct on the pan and ingoing/outgoing on trans cooler. Also had him just verify trans temp gauge reads ambient roughly before starting and driving. And so we continue.....

I'll ask here and post on diagnostics. Has anyone had an issue like what was mentioned above about the VSS/ISS causing an overheating problem?

Found out that my buddy is using a PCM of NC 4l60e to 4l80e conversion harness. Apparently it doesn't use the front ISS signal and then some parameters in the trans have to be tuned out? Was wondering if this might be presenting as some sort of slip issue to the ecm/tcm and causing the excessive heat?

I used the Speartech and it does use the ISS since the 4l60e had it internally.

Thanks

Did you ever figure this out? I took my 6 speed out of my WS6 and did the 80E swap, now I'm plagued with overheating problems.

Thanks!

Truck has since been sold but here is what was done before. Stall converter that was in it (will remain unnamed) was changed to a 3600/3800 triple disc PTC stall converter. Old converter always felt looser than what it was rated at. This brought temps down considerably and they would at least remain under 180F in this Florida heat. Temps would also come down once on a highway at constant speed whereas previously it would not.

We made sure rear fitting on Trans for cooler line was correct (extended fitting) and there was fluid returning from cooler.

So it seems some of the issue was the torque converter. His Trans got warmer than mine still. I have the same trans with a trucool 40K and a slightly lower stall (3200 PTC). I typically don't see over 160/165 in traffic in summer heat. Both of our coolers were routed out of the radiator

Hope this helps.

Does the cooler have priority air flow? Like up front in the grill? Or is it underneath the truck, getting a bunch of heat soaked air (from engine; rad, trans, turbo kit, etc) which it’s trying to use to cool it? My 80e stays at 145-150* at 70mph when it’s 90* outside. Stop and go it gets up another 20-30*

His was behind his front bumper which was aftermarket and had a cut out which directed air towards the cooler. Cooler was not directly in the air path and was angled. It also had 2 fans mounted on the cooler. Not sure how efficient they were.

My cooler is mounted behind my intercooler and I 22left as much sticking up above the intercooler as I could. 150/155F at 70 mph in 90/95 degree heat.
