transgo kit install: should i replace solenoids while im in there? ive got the 4L60E for my 1972 Cutlass LS swap on the bench, preparing to do the trans-go kit. this will be my first time doing this kit, and i will be taking my time. my concern is that this was a used transmission, though known to be good. im wondering if it would be a good idea to throw new solenoids in it while im in there, or just skip it.

If the oil is red and the solenoid plastic connectors come off without them breaking, and the bottom of the pan is clean (no metal), you should be fine. If there is a lot of clutch/band material on the bottom of the pan, the Shift kit will not solve the burnt 2-4 clutch or the 2-4 band problem, and this will have to be addressed before installing the Shift kit here. The solenoids can still be alright, as clutch material rarely affects them. Just clean with solvent and blow them dry with compressed air.
Any idea on how many miles the trans has?
Every now and then on Ebay I see OEM AC Delco harness kits with all solenoids for the 4L60E. It includes the New Harness with TCC Solenoid, New A and B Shift Solenoids, Manifold Pressure Switch, PWM Solenoid, 3-2 Downshift Solenoid, and EPC Solenoid for right around $100 shipped.
The AC Delco Shift Solenoids can be had for $10-15 each online. So it is up to you if you want to throw out the extra cash.
