Default 4L80E electronically or manually ?

Ok, when I finally go to the track with this thing, should I just leave it in D3 and let it shift at it's set points or do it manually?
This is only IF it dead hooks like it use to with the t350 and 8" treemaster.
See pic below.
That I shifted myself. On the street, the DR's will go up in smoke with the 80 too. If I roll into it it will down shift to 1st and blow the DR's off again. So there's no street testing!
So as a member mentioned to me, keeping it manually I "might" be able to pedal it if necessary.
Thoughts?

Try it both ways. When I tracked my 80e I was able to setup the controller for my each gear shift points, so I staged in D3, set the brake and held on!

I did shift manually though too, no data and actual shift feels funny. I'd see about 300 rpm at my rate of acceleration from shift to gear change

Gear ratios are almost identical so try both!

I have a compushift 1 controller and can program it also.
So it would command a shift but actually happen 300 later?
If that is the case, I'd set it for 6600 for a 7k shift point.
oh, what gear ratios are identical ?

Thanks

Yep, that's what I did. 6400 for around a 6700rpm shift, but I was putting a lot of power through it so it had the time to rev a little before the hydraulics could catch up

The 80e has very similar ratios as your th350 you had

You have to rub it in that you have more power! Don't you!

Yeah I'm hoping for similar times with the 80.
I might have to have my son drive, between me gaining weight and the 80 adds some too from back at the end of 2013!
I'd love to just put it in D3 and let her eat!

I kind of like shifting, so I would put the Compushift in man mode-when I built a bigger engine, the engine revved quicker than my brain, so I experimented with leaving it in drive and programing the shifts-as long as I didn't have to pedal, I could do good-I would data log the run, use that to tweak my shift points
