Question 4l60e Rebuild or Change pump?

My 4l60E has been leaking fluid for the past year, I thought it was the pan at first, so I changed gasket didn't fix it so I changed the shift lever seal too. Wasn't that either, I now noticed the leak is actually coming from the bell housing where the engine meets the tranny. This unit was rebuilt 40k miles ago.
My question now is it worth just replacing the pump and leaving it alone or just overhaul it? everything else is fine with the unit besides a little clunk when braking first gear to 0 but I assumed the guy who rebuilt it forgot to install the anti clunk clip. paid 1k for the rebuild a few years back.

It could be the front seal or pump O-ring. Could even be the converter or converter neck. If it just has a small leak then sure it worth fixing. The little clunk spring missing isn't going to hurt anything. Just be thorough.

^^^ +1.
By "pump O-ring" (I think) he is referring to the small o-rings on the 7 bolts that hold the pump to the case. While you would need to remove the trans for this, replacing the front seal, those o-rings and the o-ring on the input shaft will likely solve your leak.
You could remove each of the 7 bolts one at a time, replace the o-ring and torque it back to 18 ft/lbs.
I have heard of a worn front pump bushing causing a new seal to quickly fail again, but replacing that bushing means removing the pump which starts a slippery slope toward at least a partial rebuild.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do a quick inspection, see how everything looks, hell might even opt to do a semi refresh.
