Default Scan tool

I'm tired of trying to guess what is going on in my transmission. I need a good scan tool that can give me info on my 4L60E. I also need to rebuild a transmission for a 97 Mazda 626 (I think that's a Ford CD4E), and am having engine issues with a 95 maxima, so a scanner that can do all three of these vehicles would be nice.

I'm leaning toward a used MT-2500. Any opinions or suggestions?

Those old "brick" scanners as we called em are pain in the *** to use. Yea the price is nice but they aren't supported anymore by snap on as far as I know. They are slow, clunky, and only show 4 or 5 lines of data at a time. We have a few of the new snap on's at my work and they are the ****, but then again they are big money and not really for a DIY'er. We also have an OTC reader that I believe will read ECM, ABS, TCM, and Air bag data on most newer vehicles and can be updated, think it was about 300 bucks.

Thanks biketopia,

The newer scanners do look very nice. Data logging on a lot of them, graphs, switching PIDs around so you can see the ones you care about in one place. I'm tempted to shell out a ton of money for one.

I have a 91 and a 92. OBD-I capability would be nice. I know the new snap On(Solus?) scanners can do OBD-I, but like you said, big money. Is the OTC able to do OBD-I?

Maybe I could grab a brick for my older cars and find something that only does OBD-II?

I came across some PC software called "AutoEnginuity" Does anyone have an opinion on it?

Auto enginuity is really nice for a laptop based scanner. I have a smaller hand held that does both obd1 and II. Can't remember if it shows live data like the OTC we have or not. I haven't used it in a while, it sits at the house if I have to fix something on the run vs having it brought to my shop.
