Default No 3rd or 4th gear.

I was driving on to the highway tonight and all of a sudden I had no 3rd or 4th gear. The car will downshift if I punch it, converter flashes and then when it shifts into 3rd there's nothing...like I'm in neutral. 4th gear is the same way. Should I start looking for a new transmission?

sounds to me like you burned up the 3-4 clutchpack. it's an all too common problem on these trannies. time for a rebuild im afraid.

How is your 4l65e holding up? Think it would be ok for a 430hp car?

id go with a stronger unit for 430 RWHP. my 65 works real well for my power level but it was really only designed to withstand the torque of a stock LS6 motor (GM never ended up building an LS6/4L65 performance car). i make about 400 hp at the flywheel so im right there. the stuff in the 65 is upgraded but there are stronger upgrades out there. I mainly went with it because it was brand new, not rebuilt and had a warranty.

Yep its the 3/4 clutchpack. Put in a cooler if you don't already have one after you get it rebuilt.

The best replacements out there for the 3-4 clutch pack seem to be the Raybestos single-sided Z-Pak set.
