Default Th400 auto vs manual valvebody

I'm looking at a used fti th400 stage 2 with auto valvebody. Few questions for everyone.
1. Can they be manually shifted in all gears?
2. Seller said it doesn't have an electronic kickdown switch. Does it need one? If so, how are people setting them up on ls truck intakes?
3. Does it operate off vacuum?
4. And last but not least, for a 5xx whp 3200 lb STREET/strip car, would you prefer an auto valve body or manual?

Yes it can be controlled manually as well.

2. Seller said it doesn't have an electronic kickdown switch. Does it need one? If so, how are people setting them up on ls truck intakes?
in order to have passing gear you will need the kick down switch.

3. Does it operate off vacuum?
Yes it operates off of vacuum, it comes with the vacuum modulator already installed.

4. And last but not least, for a 5xx whp 3200 lb STREET/strip car, would you prefer an auto valve body or manual?
This one is a loaded question! This is going to depend 100% on user preference. If you like shifting and banging gears you should probably go with the manual level 3, if you want a more drive to church feel and don't want to worry about having to shift gears all the time; go with the level 2 auto shift

Stupid question, but what tells these old transmissions what rpm to shift and how accurate is it? I remember having a 700R4 that had the TV cable but what are the mechanical limits of that?

There is a governor in the unit that controls that along with vacuum.

Back in the day when the 400 came out, first thing we did was disc that annoying elect kickdown switch-it would drop the trans down into first gear,
much preferred to limit it to 2nd gear-never used one since, lol

ok you guys the only time your th400 knows you are a full throttle is when 12 volts tells the trans The pressure goes up keeping your trans alive. GM made over 30+ different th400s.
