4l60 vs 4l80 in 69 camaro 1000+HP
At 1000hp you are at the absolute max limit of basically any 4l60 ... I think there's a built 60 that will hold it, but for how long? At that point and that level of power you're better off going with an 80 for certain. With that much power the extra weight and rotating mass of the 80 may even benefit you rather than hurt....you're going to have to get the power to the ground, as I'm sure you well know.
If you were in the 600-700hp range (Im sure there's 60 haters on here that will disagree) but I'd say a built 60 would've sufficed.
Bottom line....my opinion....over 700whp the 60 no matter who builds or how built its a ticking time bomb.. under that a 60 will do. You're better off with an 80 my friend. Good luck!

I'd look at it cost-wise.
We all know that a stock 4l80e can handle much higher hp than a stock 4l60e. Let's say that a top of the line built 4l60e WILL last at 1,000hp for as long as a well built 4l80e.
How much money will it cost to get a 4l60e up to 1,000hp vs a 4l80e up to 1,000hp.
The price difference between Performabuilt's two 1,000hp tranmissions, the level 3 black edition 4l60e and the performance 4l80e is almost $2,000. Which makes sense, considering you have to replace so many parts of the 4l60e with upgrades in order to both increase the hp tolerance and correct/accommodate some of the inherent design flaws.
If you're just doing an installation instead of a remove, rebuild, and reinstall of what's already there, to me it would make more sense to go with the 4l80e. You can use the difference to buy a top of the line triple disk adamantium magic sparkles torque converter and still have some cash leftover.
EDIT: for clarification, the level 3 black edition 4l60e has the $2,000 bigger price from the performance 4l80e. I implied this but didn't state with certainty.
