Default 4l60e from 04 GTO in 01 TA WS6

Hi everybody, Im not necesseraly a newbie to LSX or fbodys since I have owned my TA for several years. By I have samewhat of a newbie question. I have done some research on 4l60Es and ended up buying a rebuilt trans from a 04 gto. Everything I saw online says that they are interchangeble, just have to swap the tailshaft housing to be able to mount the fbody torque arm. Can anybody confim this?. A mechanic at a trans shop insists that they are completely different. He says that just by looking at it he knows that is a 4l65e noa a 4l60e. the label an the trans reads 4HVD, as far as I know thats a 4l60e. Sorry for the long post, but bottom line. Will an automatic transmission from a 2004 GTO work in my 01 TA by just swaping the tailshaft housing? Thanks in advance for the replies. I will post a picture tomorrow since i dont have one in my phone at this time.

It will work. A 4l60e, 4l65e or 4l70e from 98-08 (vss in tail shaft) from a Ls ( bolt hole at 12 o'clock on bell housing) will work. There are a couple differences in the 4l60e and 4l65e. The 4l65e has 5 pinion planetary gear sets and a 7 clutch setup in the 3-4 as opposed to 6 clutches in 4l60e stock units. Neither of those differences affect compatibility.
- corvette will not work due to a different input shaft
- 2wd and 4wd units are not interchangeable. Different output shafts
Your transmission in question WILL work

Thanks for the quick reply. Something else the guy mentioned was the harness. Is the harness just plug and play? According to him the conector was different. Again the research I did tells me that they are the same, but can anyone confirm this?
