trans swap question My daughter’s 04 GTO has a transmission issue, we are going to swap it out, a friend gave me one out of a 1998 Z28, are they the same? It’s the same transmission just wondering if input shafts or tailhosiings are any different.
We plan to rebuild the one given to us and then go to a shop and make the swap, don’t want to do that if it isn’t going to work easily.

The tail housing is different which is no big deal it can be swapped. I've sold those f-body tail housings on ebay for $130 so don't give it away.
The one main issue is the manual shaft, I believe the GTO uses a PNP switch and the shaft is longer. Thats no big deal either, just swap it out and bolt the switch up. A little bit more involved than the tail swap but still easy. And one thing, Don't try to unplug the wires. Not sure about the GTO's but that switch on trucks has the harness plugs glued in, just pull the switch off and let it hang.
