Trans Shifting Very Hard after Engine Work

Not sure if I posted this in the right section, but maybe one of you can help me anyway.

I just replaced a blown head gasket on my buddie's '89 Chev 1500. Now the auto tranny shifts so hard it feels like it's going to break something. I suppose I must have left a vacuum hose off or cable unplugged but can't find anything. I'm not really sure what controls the tranny in this truck.

Anyone have any ideas or sugestions?

Probably the vacuum modulator on the side of the tranny. Normally vacuum line T'd off the manifold or brake booster.

What trans is in it? Also, as a side note, if it has a TV cable, make sure that was re-adjusted properly after installing the intake and throttle body or you could damage the trans.

Since its an '89, I would assume it has the 700R-4. If the 700 has not been modified (TV Checkball removed) then not having the TV cable properly adjusted, or not even connected will cause MAX TV pressure. Does it feel like it shifts late as well?
