Won't shift out of 1st

I have a 1993 Pontiac trans am lt1 and auto.
I can't get it to shift out of 1st gear......Speedometer works, reverse works, shifts up and down through all gears, Tried accelerating and letting off hoping it would shift......... nothing

I don't understand you say it shifts "up and down through all gears", but won't shift out of 1st.

Sorry the shifter shifts up and down through all gears. .... but the transmission doesn't engage in any gears other than 1st, park, and reverse

The governor gear might be stripped. Very common when it doesn't shift.
