used trans any good Ok guys
Been offered a 4L60E for cheap, its from an 01 Pontiac GTO with 135k on the clock, I was told that is was holding 2nd longer than it should and then shifting hard into 3rd and 4th. How big a problem could i be looking at, is it a valve body/solenoid problem or looking at something deeper. ( I have a spare 4l60e with burnt 3-4 clutch pack if need VB parts)
Sorry dont really know much more about trans than that and its already out of the car.

Someones lying to you. There was no 2001 GTO, so I'd be suspect of the transmission.
It probably wasn't holding second long, it was probably sliding into 3rd because the 3-4 clutch is going out. PCM trans slip code probably maxed out line pressure which is the only reason it even moved.
A good deal on a non working 2001 4L60E out of who knows what is $50. I can get cores of all years for $40.
Why not build the one you already have?

Trans was out of car when i looked but is 01 trans going of serial number, Just thought that if it was something simple like VB or solenoid would be and easy swap instead of full rebuild.
At 135,000 miles and it's sitting on the table, I would open her up and at least replace the clutches, seals, pistons, and do the code 1870 fix. That mileage is around when you first start seeing some of them fail and it would suck to swap it in, only to completely fail a few thousand miles later.
