Default Circle D 4l80 converter

New here, working on my s10, ls2 with a 4l80e. I ordered a circle d converter and what showed up I think may be the wrong part in the box. Upon install I have a sizable gap and the converter hub is not supported well at all. The website says a dished 3 bolt flexplate is the only one that will work and there is no need for a crank flange spacer and that is what I have installed here. What gives, any input?

There should be some installation instructions that come with your converter and a set of bolts and shims. You have to measure the distance between converter pads and flexplate and if it's beyond the spec you need to use the shims to close up the gap. Or another idea would be to give them a call and they'll get it sorted out real quick

U are correct tht there 80e converters usually use a 60e flexplate.

But there is a possibility tht they built a 80e converter spacing/flex plate pattern.

Best to call them. Also between mounting pads and flexplate u want a 1/8" gap before bolting to flexplate. Anything more than tht use the shims they sent with it. Some need shimming, some dont! Always best to measure.

U can use a 1/8" drill bit. Works great!

Thats way too much. The gap is 1/2 the size of the ring gear on the flexplate.

Something isnt right look how close the flexplate is to oil pan. Are u sure this is the correct flexplate and that it's not bent or warped.

Looking back over it, tht definately looks like a std 80e converter. Im thinkin u need a 80e flexplate and spacer.

Ended up pulling it forward and shimming it. Not totally sure I like that but seemed to work with the shims they sent. Of all the autos I've ever put together I hadn't seen a gap that big which was why it was concerning. I still think a crank spacer and a flat 4l60 flex plate would have been the best option but they are pretty pricey. The converter hub was also pretty tight in the crank but managed to make it work. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully I'll have this ls2 s10 up and moving soon!
