Default Rebuilt 4L60E

My 3-4 clutch went out on my 4L60E. I rebuilt the tranny and installed. I had forward and reverse for about 30 seconds after start up and now no forward or reverse. I have read it could be a pump but no one has said they had forward or reverse on startup. They said it shears the pins on the pump at startup if TC isn't seated right but I had gears for 30 seconds. Any idea what I should look at first? I don't think the pump is working I checked fluid level then started car and checked again with no difference. When installed TC spun freely with less than a 1/4 inch gap to flexplate. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, HELP= Remove transmission and disassemble, clean thoroughly, replace parts, reassembly and reinstall.

Do a pressure test, if you don't have a guage pull one of the trans lines out of the cooler (or radiator) and start it up. see if its flowing or not. Did you have to pull the torque converter forward towards the flexplate when you installed the trans?

No movement after installed is basically always a result of no line pressure (usually due to incorrectly installed TC). Maybe it was connected just enough to give you pressure for a bit and then it destroyed the pump..Who knows, but very likely thats the issue. Just buy a new remanned pump and install it yourself (after dropping the trans again) but do a line pressure test first and dont fire a parts cannon at it.

I've got 5 psi on start up. and had a little less than a 1/4in gap at TC and flexplate.

Thats basically 0 pressure, no where near enough to work. Do you mean 1/4in gap before you pulled the TC towards the flex plate?

There are several things that could cause no oil pressure, but most likely the pump. I suggest you pull the trans and disassemble the pump. It will be very obvious if the pump is busted.

One of the pros will confirm.

Sounds like you installed the torque converter correctly. Another possibility is the oil filter fell out of the pump?

Face it... It is Broke.

DO NOT attempt replace the pump and run with it.

Lets say the pump did break... putting it back together will circulate metal debris through the transmission...

Take it apart, clean it, and fix it.
