4l80e bellhousing question
My question is since the Express vans had the Vortec 5.7l up to 2003, do these 4l80e's have top bolt provision? I figured it could go either way. GM could of been using the Vans to use up the last of the old stock which is why you see vortec 350 in them and it wouldnt be a stretch to think they would be using old stock 4l80e, without the top bolt provision.
I understand it isnt required to use the top bolt location but for information sake, do you think the 2000-03 express vans have the new style bell?
I got a local yard who will do a 2002 4l80e from behind a 5.7l Express van but provide an LS converter/flexplate from a 6.0 for $630. This seems like the best route but Im curious about the bolt pattern.
ALL 4l80e will bolt up behind a sbc, bbc, LS, LT, etc
That top bolt is NOT needed...its not a determining factor at all for strength
The top bolt also won't hurt anything if you try to use it with a SBC that obviously doesn't have the top bolt provision in the block
aka it doesn't matter
Maybe the price difference includes the lower dust shield which is actually a structural part of the bellhousing when a 4L80E was used behind an LS engine.
