Wrong Year 4L80E with a LQ4

Default Wrong Year 4L80E with a LQ4

Looks like the trans I bought isn't correct. It's missing the LS bolt hole, but it does have the updated cooler line position (placed several inches apart). There's also the number 99 in a circle on the tailshaft. The white tag has 9LCP and when I type that in google, it shows a lot of '99 6.5L diesel GM 3500 Express Van references. Housing P/N 24208421.

So, assuming I have a 6.5L Diesel variant from '99, what do I need to mate it to a 2002 LQ4? I already planned on a different torque convertor, since this will be installed in a lighter vehicle.

It will bolt up no problem.
Only issues with swapability of whole transmissions for the 4l80e is 4wd or 2wd and cooler line position.
Converter stall range can be different also.
So, if you have the right output shaft (2wd/4wd) and also have the proper cooler line location...you're golden.

If you're trying to take 2 transmissions and start swapping guts...that's when you can run into issues

Thanks. I knew the early LQ4s ('99-2000) had a long crank variant mated to a 4L80E and there are changes needed if you use them with certain transmissions (different flywheel or added spacer or something). So I wasn't sure if it worked the other way (using a later short-crank LQ4 like mine from 2002, with an earlier year 4L80E.).

Sounds like I'm okay, just one less bolt a the proper stall TC.

Flexplate and spacer is the difference.
Converter and trans stay the same
