IDing a 4l60E (engine family)
will reveal the engine family. The 4 large letters are OCHD-the O would be the year,
obs 2000, has the 12 o clock bolt hole. Not sure what the rest mean, conflicting info
on line, but I think the D is the obs, 4L60E. The CH is sup to be the engine faimly
according to one source, not another, lol. Anyway, cant find what CH is, if engine
family. I realize the trans could have been swapped at one time, but doesn't look like it.
Bellhousing, input shaft type, and tailhousing...that's all that really matters physically.
You can update anything internally to make it work best for your setup
The transmissions did not vary just because a different size/ output engine was in front of it.
It is a 4L60E transmission for all that matters.
On top of that; It also doesn't matter if the transmission is a 60 or 65 variant... They are essentially all the same and need to be modified regardless.
If you really need to know, OCHD with a 2 piece case is: For 2000 Chevy two wheel drive Tahoes, Suburbans, and Silverados with a 5.3L engine.
it had never been sep. from the engine, but I didnt think the engine was a 2000, maybe the trans
was swapped early on. It ended up being a 5.3, I only wanted the engine, but the trans was
left on it. Never been inside a 60E, rebuilt some 80E's, I guess a project later on.
The best ways to do so, are from:
-The Vin of the car of truck that the engine was originally installed (the 8th digit of the VIN relates to the engine RPO).
-The RPO sticker of the car or truck that the engine was originally installed (one of the L designated codes will be for the engine).
-The partial VIN that is etched into the cylinder-block of the engine.
-The partial VIN that is etched into the transmission case
Most importantly...
The Broadcast Code of the transmission is NOT a good way to identify an engine!
The Broadcast Code of the transmission does not provide any engine specifics by it self...
For example a partial VIN is needed to know if a 6.0L engine is a LQ4 or LQ9.
The transmission Broadcast Code will not provide the information required to know this.
