Crazy occurrence So a few months ago my 3-4 clutch pack burt up in my 4l60e. This is in a 04 GMC sierra, I rebuilt and got it back into the truck today. I went to hook up the shift cable and noticed it was about a half inch past the linkage. How would this happen? It should be in the exact same spot as it was when I removed it! I did get it back on by taking it out of park, as it pulled the cable back like it should. But this is causing more pressure then there needs to be to shift it back into park! I can adjust it to take this length out some, I believe however I shouldn't need to because the torque convertor is all the way in, the bellhousing is connected to the transmission and on the other end the block! It should be exactly where it was when I pulled it off! Anyone ever hear of this? Can the cable relax? Though I doubt it would relax that much!? Any thoughts?

Does the vehicle have the original shifter cable and brackets?
Many of the after-market and some of the OEM brackets can be installed in an incorrect position on the transmission...
The bracket for the gear selector cable may be bolted/ mounted to the oil-pan rail in the wrong position.
If this is the case, you may find that the bracket needs to be moved rearward one bolt hole and have the cable re-adjusted back how it was previously.
