Are there just 5 different output shafts styles on the 4L80E?
I've read that yoke selection for the 4L80E depends on if the trans has a oring seal on the output shaft or an oring that is installed in a sleeve that is pressed onto the output shaft.
Also if the output shaft has a hole that was tapped for a 1/2" bolt, then it was designed to have a fixed yoke and a driveshaft that slips.
Then there's the lube holes.
'91-'96 have lube holes in the output shaft. '97 & up don't have lube holes in the output shaft.
The 5 types of 4L80E output shafts can be described as:
1. Fixed yoke. Splines do not run all the way up to the rear bearing. 6" in length 2. Slip yoke only. These have splines all the way up to the rear bearing. 6.5" in length. 3. HD truck series with tail mounted brake. 5.5" sticks out. 4. 4 wheel drive option, much shorter in length. Only 3" sticks out.
5. Long, HD fixed and sticks out 6.5-7"
Regardless what input shaft I find on the 4L80E core, I plan to go with a fully splined output shaft and fully splined slip yoke rather than a counterbored yoke that is used for bolt-on yoke output shafts. I heard fully splined is better and may have less vibration issues. So that would be Sonnax T3-35571HP and AC delco output shaft #24204289
Was told that for Strange yokes, the U1664 for example has a spot in the yoke that has no spline in it. About a 3/4" section. Would the Strange U1664 work also with the #24204289?
