Default LT1, 4l60e compatibility

Hey all, new to these forums. I have a quick question. I have searched all around on the Internet and get some conflicting info so I would value another opinion as well. I have a 1997 5.7 LT1 engine from a Z 28. It was originally a six speed car but the transmission was gone. I also have wiring and computer. I also have a 4L 60 E one piece transmission from a 1995 (5CRD). Is there anyway to make these two work together. This will be going in some sort of a hot rod in the future. I know I may have to get a new wiring harness and computer upgrade. I guess my main concern is that this motor is from a non-auto car (computer). Or would I be better off looking for a different transmission which would be too bad because this one has low miles and is in excellent shape. Thank you for your help

They should work together, but you are right about having to get the harness rewired (or new one) and the computer tuned to recognize the transmission.
Post this also in the LT1/LT4 section. You might get more responses.

Swap the 3-2 control solenoid to the new type, and the 95 can be used and treated like a 97

So, swap that one solenoid, then follow any instructions/advice you get for swapping in a 97 engine/trans combo

I thought I read somewhere else that just a change of solenoid actually won’t do it? Something about putting tranny into limp mode or something. I apologize, I’ve read so much in the past few days my brain is mush, lol.

If you use the 95 valve body, separator plate, and case together. It will work fine.

There is ALOT of misinformation/wives tales around the 93/94----95---96/97 trannies and how they are all totally incompatible

93/94= PWM 3-2, no TCC Reg
95=PWM 3-2, PWM TCC Reg
96/97= On/Off 3-2, PWM TCC Reg

If you want to use the 96/97 trans into a 95 car/computer...change the on/off 3-2 for a pwm style

If you want to use the 95 trans into a 96/97 car/computer...change the pwm 3-2 to an on/off style

No matter which way you are switching, I would recommend blocking both 3-2 valves inboard. The 3-2 downshift valve and 3-2 control valve are just ways to control exhaust fluid with an orifice. Giving more of a "range" to the 3-2 downshift feel. You don't need them. They cause leaks, they cause headache.

If you use the wrong solenoid and the computer can "tell" via its resistance/current feedback loop then yes, it can send it into limp mode.

Stupid follow up.... seeing that my original ECM is from an M6 car (97 f-body) , could I just use a stand alone unit like the TCI EZtune to run the 95 tranny?
