Mr Bond: I think he is saying that 2nd gear slips and he feels no engine braking when driving, presumably in OD.

Joshua: To start the conversation:
This sounds like your 2/4 gear band is slipping. We just had a thorough discussion about this in another thread which you can read and save us duplicating everything again:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...slips-2nd.html

Your feeling that there is no engine braking is a bit odd because the 4L60E when in OD does not provide engine braking; the overrun clutches are not on.
Only thing I can think of is that your band is slipping so badly that the internals are of trans are no longer spinning enough to provide a little bit of "transmission braking".

While you can read that other thread, in short with a 26 year old transmission, you are looking at a complete rebuild. Assuming this is the first year of the 4L60E, it is an odd year and if you wanted to replace the trans, you specifically need another '94. (A '95 or later will not work.)

a 95 or later can be made to work.
It is just not a "direct swap"
A little tiny bit of vb modification and solenoid swapping and you're good to go

Obviously you and perhaps a few others of us can make those Valve Body mods, but I suspect they are beyond what even most trans mechanics would want to tackle.
But still good for anyone needing to replace/swap a '94 4L60E to know as that one year might be hard to find.
