06 4l60e- how many thrust bearings
So far I have the 5 pack Sonnax SBKG-12, and the larger thrust bearing that goes on the reaction shaft to the sunshell.
In this Image; seals are shown above the transmission...
And Thrust washers and bearings are shown below the transmission.
The part descriptions are numbered at the bottom of the page.
The first tool that anyone should buy, before starting transmission work is some form of manual.
This is from the ATSG manual on the 4L60E family transmissions.
A stock 2006 year unit will use 6 torrington thrust bearings and 3 thrust washers.
The #615 thrust bearing and #616 thrust washer go together (actually stack on top one another).
The #669 part is shown here as a thrust washer... but in your year unit, it will be a bearing.
(Some earlier year units that have a "Tow/ Haul" feature will also use a bearing at this location).
Note: not counting the part #616; this year transmission can be a "Full Roller Unit" by using a Sonnax Smart-Shell and a THM350 pump bearing.
The Sonnax part will include a bearing to replace part #674... and the THM350 bearing will replace part #601.
Anytime gear-train components are replaced, the thrust/ end-play must be measured and correctly established within the specified dimensions.
One in each planetary gear (these do not get replaced unless rebuilding the planets/ replacing the planets).
On that note... Do not purchase 5-pinion planets! They are NOT an upgrade.
