I was thinking of putting a 6l80 in my truck for cruising on the highway. I am planning on a 5.3 with maybe a mild cam, but nothing crazy at all. Will a GMPP computer handle this transmission or do I need a computer that had a 5.3 with this specific transmission? I guess the same question would apply to a 8l60 also.

 

are you asking for stand alone computers or OEM ecm/tcm combos?

I know the e38/t42 will do the six speeds and that is my preference for mild gen 4 swaps.

I have also used the us shift quick 6 and it works really well and is easy to set up.

I dont know much about the 8 and 10 speeds other than HGM/Compushift has something coming for them soon-ish

The 6L80/ 6L90 transmissions (ZF 6HP Family) have their TCM inside the case on the valve-body.

 

I guess I am asking if an E67 will control a 6 or 8 speed transmission if I buy a 5.3 (GEN IV) and go with a 6l or 8l? You state an E38 works, so an E67 is basically the same computer with a few more options. Will a GMPP E38 or E67 control the 6 or 8 speed automatic? The chances of me finding a complete set-up with computer, engine, trans etc is prestty slim, so I will probably have to piece it together.

It would be great if somebody makes a standalone unti that will control the shift points on the trans. That would open up quite a few options on the engine/trans combo.
