Issues with removing Transmission w/ Solid motor mounts
I am working on a 1998 Trans Am with a 4L60E transmission and solid motor mounts. I loosened the k member bolts, the rear two have been removed the middle is loosened and the front is backed out maybe two turns. The transmission has a slight angle down that I can see the top bolt. I did see that there are supposed to be 8 bolts on the transmission, but for some reason this only has 7, 3 on each side, and one in the top center. I am having slight difficulty getting a grip on the top bolt but I am sure with pure determination it will happen. The issue I am having is the driver side 3rd bolt up. The transmission is pushed towards the driver's side it seems that the bolt is almost touching the firewall. I am unable to get a socket onto it to get it off. Is there any suggestions to help gain access? I didnt know if something for the steering assembly was supposed to be loosened/removed prior to dropping the k member. Thanks for any assistance.
The transmission to cylinder-block mounting fasteners consists of 6 bolts, for the Gen III SBC.
The Gen I SBC also used 6 bolts... but on the Gen III engines, one bolt has been moved to the 12 o'clock position.
Depending on the engine oil-pan used... there may also be small fasteners to the transmission bell-housing.
Remove these first.
