I do not like this style convertor with the adapter ring. Back in the day they used to do this to a 4 cylinder convertor to make a high stall convertor. Technology has advanced alot since then so there really is no need to do it this way any more.
Yeah the smaller diameter has a small lock up friction material that won't last long. I bought one, think it was Chicago Transmissions. Received it and darned if they didn't ship a second one the next week by mistake. Had a change of mind and bought the Circle-D 278mm. Sold the both the Chicago's for a deal just to get the money back. The Circle-D has been flawless in my full size truck.
