Will my converter work with my application?
My truck currently has a 05 6.0 4l80e with a coan racing torque converter. The 6.0 is getting replaced with a 05 5.3.
the snout on the converter was too long for the 6.0 so it was cut to the correct length.
Will this now work with the 5.3 or is there something I need?? I keep reading and feel like I'm spinning in circles.
I'm trying to take the old motor out and put the new one in all in one night at my friend's shop so I need everything to bolt up with no problems. Any help Is appreciated! 🙏

You may want to look into a flexplate as well. The 5.3L flexplate probably doesn't have the 4L80 converter bolt pattern and unless the Coan converter has the LS bolt pattern on it as well, you will likely need a new flexplate.

FTI Converter build sheet
If you had a Long/ thick crankshaft flange 6.0L engine and had the pilot of the torque-converter machined to fit the engine...
Then the 5.3L engine will most likely have a Short/ thin crankshaft flange (unless not stock) and will need a spacer installed on the crankshaft flange.
Shown in image below:
This will allow the pilot of the torque-converter to reach the crankshaft and be supported properly.
also as already stated, you will have to make certain that the flex-plate used will match the torque-converter.
Note if you also had a transmission failure recently... DO NOT reinstall the torque-converter with a new/ rebuilt transmission.
The torque-converter needs to be cut open and cleaned out; or replaced.
Failure to do so... will spread metal debris through the new transmission and ruin it.
