Default 4L60e loose pwm

Hello all, I've found lots of useful info here during my trials with my 97 tahoe. I have a strange question I need to ask. I had no 1st 4th or TC lockup after rebuild. I just dropped the pan suspecting shift solenoid A which did click with 9v battery. All the solenoids & harnesses are new. I don't have a multimeter to test resistance. But here's what I did find. The PWM solenoid had fallen out! I reused all the old clips except this one since I lost one. Here I used one of the different clips that came with the kit & it didn't hold. My question is would this cause me to not have 1st gear? I'm not 100% sure but I think I had 1st if I dropped the shifter down. Does anyone think this was the source of all my problems?

solenoid that fell out means that the AFL has a MASSIVE leak.
The TCC PWM solenoid is fed straight off the AFL valve and there is virtually no restriction. So you had a MASSIVE AFL leak.
no 1st or 4th would be because there is not enough AFL pressure to stroke the shift valve against its spring.

No TCC would also make sense if you retained a stock regulated apply valve lineup. Because the apply pressure for TCC in a stock setup relies on AFL oil to be regulated via the solenoid and stroke the valve outboard to increase pressure.

Basically...solenoid falls out=big leaky=no pressures for solenoids=no workie

ok, i'm pretty darn sure that it was the clips fault that it fell out. I'm also pretty sure this is why I had no lock up or OD. I'm just wondering if there is another culprit for starting in first before I put it back together. I'm gonna get the correct clip which should fix that.... i think

Shift solenoid A can't work...if it doesn't have signal oil...aka AFL...because it's leaking...because the PWM solenoid is missing

Would the drop in AFL valve from Central Valve Bodies help in the case?

That Valve is very slightly oversized.
Most of the time I find the AFL Valve-Train/ bore to be too worn for the Central Valve-Bodies AFL Valve.
It does work nicely though for a bore with minimal wear.

If there is an AFL circuit leak, that is as large as the solenoid not being installed...
An oversized AFL Valve will not do anything to help.

You can have a PERFECT afl valve

but if the solenoid is missing...then you'll have a HUGE leak and it won't matter

Here's a picture showing how AFL oil will just have a massive amount of oil pissing out because there is no solenoid to stop it
