I took apart my 4l60e and found some concerns I need answers on. This will be my first transmission rebuild an I’m just wondering if these defects are ok or should I replace the parts. Here’s the pictures , there’s are indents inside the input drum teeth and the planet has indents aswell . Is This ok? Also the outside of the input drum looks damaged.
Make sure to inspect every lug where a snap ring would ride. Thats where you need to be concerned about the most. Down the ledges just make sure both sides of the ledges are smooth and allow smooth steel/clutch movement. The outside of the drum, not concerned. The carrier ring gear, same thing. I would replace it if it was mine but depends on the goal and application for this build. What I would be more concerned about is pressurizing the shaft to drum seal to make sure you dont have a major leak there as well as where your stator bushings ride on the input shaft.
Also, I would bet $50 bucks the reaction shaft teeth are stripped as well.
Nothing wrong with the outside of that drum. I've seen that before. On the lugs inside, i take a small file and remove and burrs that keep the clutches from moving up and down. Other than that, looks useable to me. the ring gear on the carrier looks useable too.
