4L60E No TCC and intermittent 4th gear
Well I ended up pulling the trans a couple weeks ago. Did not find any issues with the separator plate gaskets. I did put a spare pump and input shaft assembly into the torque converter to see if I could get the torque converter clutch to lock with air pressure. It would not lock. Took another known good torque converter and I could get it to lock setting it up the same way. So I cut it apart to see if I could see why it would not lock. When I got it apart the friction material on the disc was delaminating so I thought I had found my smoking gun. Also made a vacuum tester and checked the valves in the valve body. All checked good except for the ISO-Converter valve had leakage that was on the border line bad but in spec.. Bought a new converter and put the trans back in. Took it for a drive and no converter lock. Checked the TCC solenoid and it seamed ok. Got a new TCC solenoid and it shorted right away. Got another TCC and still no TCC lock. Decided to swap the valve body and the trans works fine now. Not sure why several things happened at the same time and the torque converter clutch came apart but it sure did make it quite challenging and a pain to fix.
