Default 4l80e early pump mods already done?

I’m getting ready to do some pump mods to this junkyard trans I got and it looks like someone has already done, something. I was about to do the lube to line bypass when I saw some witness marks and found this hole. It’s just under 1/16”. Should I still do the normal bypass?

Also, this hole gets enlarged to 1/8” at a 45° angle, correct? Sorry for the dumb questions fellas.

that is most definitely not the correct location for that hole...that hole needs to be plugged. It will cause more harm than good
and 1/8 at a 45...where did you get that?

if you're going for line to lube, different factors determine how big you go

my apologies, 1/8 at 45° was in reference to a different pic of the stator support that didn’t load. This is an early model (96) with a Jakes stage 4 kit and D3 transbrake. It will be mated to an approx 1000rwhp in-line 6 Ford barra. Street/strip machine.

What would be the best way to plug that hole?

That hole will be a bear to plug.
If you can even get a tap in there...a really small setscrew like 10-24 might be OK
If you're good with a TIG you might be able to make something work for ya also.

That hole will see line pressure...so whatever method you use, it better be pretty stout

10-4. I have a Tig machine, but that’s certainly not a great spot to work in. What size would you recommended the proper lube to line bypass hole be given my setup?

I think I may be better off getting a reman pump than messing with that previously drilled hole.

Another option may be something as simple as a nail that is a slight slight press fit in the hole.
With some creativity I'm sure you can figure out a way to effectively plug that hole.

.093-.105 depending on converter used.
If using a triple disc, go on the larger end of that range.
Single disc, .093 is fine

Thank you for your help. Im new to this auto trans stuff, but with some patience and learning from some of the experienced guys like yourself I’m sure I’ll eventually make this thing work. Probably. Ha

what rpm will your barra see?
The 80e need alot of attention to the lube circut and IMO a fair amount of machine work to control the rotating assembly and keep it all working nicely
