Default 4l60e issue

I have a 99 camaro ss that currently has an issue that has me stumped. I have searched but can’t seem to find an answer.

It will start, go into any gear and drive for about 30-60 seconds and then “neutral out” meaning it acts like it has 6 neutrals. If I shut it off for 5-10 minutes and let it sit, then fire it up again it will drive for 30-60 seconds and so on and so forth.

I have replaced the throttle position sensor, swapped the mass air flow for an extra one I had on the shelf and neither of these helped. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This sings of being low on transmission fluid. Have you checked the level per the owner's manual fluid check procedure? This procedure is simple but does require a hot transmission, 30 minutes and other steps. Read the book for the details.

I have seen 4L60es were there is a lot of clutch material in the pan. This clutch material will get sucked up to the filter and stop the flow of fluid to the pump and cause the trans to stop pulling. Once you turn the engine off the clutch material will settle back to the pan and once you start the engine the process starts all over again.

Transmission fluid level is perfect.

perfect according to the factory dipstick which may be off by as much as a few quarts?
Okay

Also bbond shared something I think all builders have seen before
SUPER common with 6l80e and converter material

I'd be dropping the pan either way
Best case you just verify the dipstick and replace the filter.
Worst case you see a crime scene in the pan and just pull the whole transmission for the rebuild it likely needs

I am having the same problem with my 4L60E. I’ve been told it could be the 2-3 shift solenoid, 3-4 clutch pack or the throttle position sensor.

For me at 150,000 miles, it was the 3-4 clutch pack but it was associated with a code for P1870 transmission component slippage.
