3/4 clutch backing plate installation direction.
I had to get another apply plate and backing plate for my 60e rebuild because the old ones were warped. The old backing plate was obviously the direction it went because it had a bevill at the top. My question is about the new one. It looks the same on both sides, one side has little lines that are some kind of markings I assume. Can someone tell me if it matters which way I install it. If it does I assume the little lines or markings are there to identify direction. So would the markings face the snap ring or the clutch disc. Thanks, Steven.
The side that would be against the friction material should have no lines, dimples or other things that may cause premature wear to them. I even wet stone new pressure/apply plates. You would be surprised at how many are not really flat!!
