What brand converter?

Gears will help the feel.
Hydraulic fluid may help a bit....

cheap converters are notoriously loose inefficient

So ultimately the best thing to do is buy a better brand converter and maybe lower stall maybe to 2000?

Don't need a lower stall, just a higher end converter.

I have a 2800 with 3.08 gears in a heavy 4400 lb impala ss and what I found is very simple , The loose feel is really the stock tune shifting to early making it feel really bad, My solution was to raise the part throttle shift pints by 15 percent up to 3/4 throttle, (Simple highlight the table in that area and multiply by 1.15) This made it feel much more palatable, leave lockup tables stock they seem to work out pretty well locking in 3rd around town above 35 mph
With the stock shift points I would be in 4th at like 35 mph at low throttle and until fast enough for lockup it would feel like was slipping like hell in 3rd and 4th particularly.

My converter is a 9.5 inch 2800 FTI TRIPLE DISC.

I would keep the same stall speed and go with a higher end converter.

After a number of converters over the years, all being "off the shelf" and finally went with a custom built converter... Night and day difference.

I have a 5000 stall now, custom built (yes, a little more $$) and you would never know it just tolling around. Now whether you're cruising around or launching from a dead stop...jumps straight to 5000-5200 and the fun starts.

Switching out the fluid for John Deere HyGard is known to tighten up loose converters. I'm running that in my daily driver right now; have been for months.

Agree from my own experience. I went from a TCI 3000 to a Yank 3600, and although the Yank would flash 500rpm higher, there was no perceptible difference in normal driving.

Frank makes a good point as well. I upped my part throttle shift points when the first converter went in and have kept them there. OP may want to try that first if you have tuning capability, before going to the expense and hassle of purchasing and installing another converter.

That said, a better quality converter will give you better performance, longer life, and peace of mind regarding potential failure.

will tell my tuner to try that then since see if that makes it feel tighter but will keep updated
