3-4 apply plate warping
Also sonnax sells some super duty versions https://www.jegs.com/i/Sonnax/852/74...BoCLoMQAvD_BwE
Now if you are into wood working you can use one of these, Careful make sure you have a solid hold with vise grips / I did this before lathe . just remove the front guard. It also may be possible to slow it down with a ceiling fan speed reostat. Planned to try it but purhcased lathe before I got arround to it.

2) I believe it is crucial to performance units to flat sand the plate over a piece of 1/2" of plate glass or use a builders bench stone.
3) I use a bench stone on the 120 grit side to cut it quicker and then 180 to smooth it.
here is a link to a builders stone on eBay

I apologize, I did not get the reference here. I am not particularly into wood working but if it less expensive than a lathe I would look into it.
") I use a bench stone on the 120 grit side to cut it quicker and then 180 to smooth it."
The stone listed here is 4" in diameter. Is that size correct? How often do they wear out? I would assume they are more resilient than sand paper which I have run through very quickly.
Thank you both for your help and suggestions.

For a long time I used a 2' square piece of 1/2" plate class, I used a 20" PSA disc glued to each side. 1 was 120 grit, the other was 180 grit. The paper wore out quickly and were $20 each. The stone was more cost effective
