Torque converter recommendations
Hi I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500hd crew cab with the 6.0 lq4/4l80e. I plan on putting a btr truck Norris cam in and thought while I知 at it might aswell rebuild the tranny. at most I値l be making 500hp maybe a little more, I値l be towing every once in awhile like a camper, it won稚 be daily driven, I壇 just like good power when I step on it and good reliable drivability when I知 driving normally. With that being said I知 not sure what converter I should run in this.
i put that same cam in a nice forged piston / rod lq4 ( about 11.1 comp) not long ago, and the reason we went with it was my buddy didnt want to do a converter and it works perfect on stock converter 2000 2500hd lq4/4l80. if your going to do a converter ( something like a yank 10.5 billet triple disc 3200 to 3600 pro truck converter) you can go bigger on the cam if you want , and make sure you get a nice big tranny cooler. if my buddy would have let me do that converter i probaly would have done something like the tsp madmax cam 228/232 .550/.550 110+5 and ls6 springs. but on a stock verter that btr cam does just fine has nice low/mid range and sounds pretty healthy too.
Call one of the converter manufacturers and give them your specs and they will give you the recommendations on a converter. I just purchased a converter from circle d and had excellent communication and customer service with them. They emailed me requesting all specs of my truck down to the tire size and they built it to my specs. If I had any questions they responded pretty quickly, I haven't dealt with yank but I'm sure someone like that is very similar with service.
